For some reason (probably related to flow control), gsmd doesn't receive the
responses from the GSM modem.  Instead, they get buffered inside the modem.  If
one uses the 'cu' terminal program after gsmd has terminated, all the pending
responses appear on the terminal.

I will debug this tomorrow, just mentioning it here for the sake of completeness
and documentation.
