Summary: Suggested initscripts for gllin and gpsd
           Product: OpenMoko
           Version: 2007.2
          Platform: Neo1973
        OS/Version: All
            Status: NEW
          Severity: normal
          Priority: P2
         Component: gllin
        AssignedTo: mickey at vanille-media.de
        ReportedBy: cwixon at usa.net
                CC: buglog at lists.openmoko.org

See the wiki at http://wiki.openmoko.org/wiki/Gllin#More_Initscripts

Using those scripts, and starting gpsd BEFORE gllin will have the following
benefits:

(1) gpsd, if pointed to a device that has "NP" in its filename (as in
/tmp/nmeaNP), will create that named pipe if it doesn't already exist -- the
original version of gpsd simply fails if that's the case;

(2) gpsd will start listening immediately; and

(3) gllin's output to /tmp/nmeaNP will immediately be picked up by gpsd, so
there is no need to artificially pipe the gllin output to a log or /dev/null in
order to keep gllin alive (it exits automatically if it sees no client).

These scripts would also need corresponding links in rcX.d (for example, I have
/etc/rc5.d/S35gpsd and /etc/rc5.d/S38gllin).

Works fine for me.
