Geoclue is a modular geoinformation service built on top of the D-Bus
messaging system. The goal of the Geoclue project is to make creating
location-aware applications as simple as possible.

One of the huge things the G1 and the iPhone do is location awareness.
Right now, applications that do that kind of things on Openmoko needs to
use Gypsy... but what if GPS isn't available? What about cell tower
 location, or ip address?

Geoclue takes care of that. http://geoclue.freedesktop.org/

It seems perfect for inclusion in FSO - it uses dbus, is used outside of
 Openmoko, and is Free Software.
