Yeah. That is still a hard task. Moving to dbus and hal is on of the
right steps here. As you wrote a abstraction from the toolkit layer
could be another. Keep in mind that absrtaction are not cheap.

Ugly and hard to maintain for >3 different UIs. Of course you know the
pain. :)
