Always better sticking with the convention 0-9 abc def type keyboard. Anything unconventional will split people 50:50, half will love it (mostly geeks), half won't.

Besides, typing numbers by holding down multiple keys just seems silly.

KISS = Keep it simple stupid.

I'd much sooner see OLED buttons where the text can change to suit the task.
