opkg not going anywhere

Hi Folks
 now I am trying to install some stuff on the brandnew Freerunner.

Through usb0 and ssh root at openmoko I am logged into the Neo and want to 
install tangoGPS. However, it seems that the Neo cannot access the internet 
altough the laptop does have full access.
A opkg update gives:

An error ocurred, return value: 8.

error 0

also urls cannot be pinged

I must be missing something, any ideas what?
