Issues / Quirks with SMS via GUI (Messages app)

Smashing the numbers together and placing a 1 in front is a workaround 
for that issue, but what about the other issues?  My messages program 
went from slowly loading to completely crashing any time I attempt to 
load it, so I'm not really sure what to do as I can't access any of my 
SMS messages now.
