us network and Uuntu 8.10 - is there a better way?

A request has been made to integrate this in Ubuntu here:

Already NeoTool has been packaged for Ubuntu, perhaps that package or a
new one could be used to autoconfigure and setup USB network with an
OpenMoko device.
