Yes, the ping is working:

root at om-gta02:~# ping buildhost.openmoko.org
PING buildhost.openmoko.org (78.47.190.211): 56 data bytes
64 bytes from 78.47.190.211: seq=0 ttl=53 time=31.075 ms
64 bytes from 78.47.190.211: seq=1 ttl=53 time=31.753 ms
64 bytes from 78.47.190.211: seq=2 ttl=53 time=31.768 ms

Do I have to manually replace all the URLs (from buildhost.openmoko.org to
downloads.openmoko.org) inside the .conf files in /etc/opkg?
