okay, i found some debug info with some hints by playya of
#openmoko-cdevel.

to start contacts from terminal:
phoneui-contacts

(which again doens't really start contacts here)

log found at:
/var/log/phoneuid.log

2009.12.13 00:55:32.837802 [libphone-ui]	MESSAGE: Contact query result gave 155 entries
2009.12.13 00:55:34.723449 [phoneuid]	MESSAGE: Using log level 'INFO'
2009.12.13 00:55:34.736662 [libphone-ui]	MESSAGE: Loading phoneuid
2009.12.13 00:55:35.098500 [libphone-ui]	MESSAGE: No speaker value for idle found, using none
2009.12.13 00:55:35.099116 [libphone-ui]	MESSAGE: No microphone value for idle found, using none
2009.12.13 00:55:35.104379 [libphone-ui]	MESSAGE: no vibrator configured - turning vibration off
2009.12.13 00:55:35.266707 [libphone-ui-shr]	WARNING: No such file or directory

doesn't look too suspicious to me, though.

anyone know any other log files that could help?

cheers
