[debian] navit: rendering is slow

How do you switch to 3D view in navit?
The only option which changes the view is the menu entry for
"projection". But none of the two selectable views looks like the 3d
pictures on the navit homepage. And in navit.xml i can't find any 3D
options.
So please light me up a bit. :)
