fwiw, this bug is in om2009 testing release5,
cleanly flashed. and with some fiddling like

# export DISPLAY=:0
# xrandr -s 320x240 -o left
# echo qvga-normal > /sys/bus/spi/devices/spi2.0/state
# dm

I did get it to work, temporarily.
