Deep sleep only matters if the GSM chip is on.

My expertise pretty much ends here :-) However, it might help if you
power down all extra hardware (bt, gsm, gps, wifi) and then run gpio
from

http://svn.openmoko.org/trunk/src/target/gpio/ 

and post the results. Here's what I get in this state:
