How to back up your qtmoko properly?

hi,

unfortunately my ext3 partition just packed up (at least it wants me to 
enter the root password to run fsck manually, but that's way before the
ssh server is started so I cannot connect and therefore I cannot proceed ;-( )

luckily I did a dd of the entire partition so I don't have to start from zero,
but still new contacts from last week and some other stuff is lost. now I
was wondering what you do to backup your freerunner in oder to prevent losing
precious data?
