GForge (the platform used on the current project.openmoko.org) is great for
software developers, contains all usefull stuffs to share work with
development community, but it is not so good to "present" projects in a cool
fashion.
The best could be split the "applications store" from the development site
(such as the mentioned Maemo: http://maemo.org/downloads/OS2008/ is for show
software to the folk, https://garage.maemo.org/ is for the tech people), with
a CMS placed in "somethingcool.openmoko.org", but the real threat is about
management of that pages: if target is to realize a website easy to navigate
for common people, with focus on quality apps and sharing of comments, it is
required to strictly vincolate contents addictions and changes, on the
contrary of wiki.openmoko.org where everyone puts everything and not so easy
is to spot what required.
Probably the best solution is to load a CMS (Drupal, Joomla, or even an
e-commerce oriented platform) on the desired host and elige
someone "maintainer" of the platform.
