.config file and extract

On my Om2008.9 system the is only one file in the /boot with is the
kernel (uImage-2.6.24). Maybe I have done something wrong...

I try to use the defconfig-gta02 when running making a new config with
    make ARCH=arm oldconfig defconfig-gta02
but I still have to fill in a lot of missing information. I would say
more than 50-100 options. Stuff I have no clue about. (A have tried
the brances origin/stabile and origin/andy).
