How to build a tiny rootfs

Dear List,

How can I build a tiny rootfs, something like console image.

I know that some proper modification of OE will do. But I have seen
openmoko's console image, so maybe I have missed something before. 

Is there any command available to build a console image, as I can't find
it on http://wiki.openmoko.org/wiki/Building_FSO 

If there is a wiki page about this, a link is mostly appreciated. Thanks
in advance.
