I'm using Gentoo on amd64, and when I tried with parallel builds I did get an 
error building locales. Removing the parallel builds sorted it, except for one 
occasion when I was doing a bunch of other stuff at the same time and it ran 
out of memory. I really ought to get some more ;-)
