Apparently the initial mode selection code is different in 1.4 and it
was choosing 240x320.This plus a bug in glamo kernel framebuffer
driver modesetting code caused the effect you saw.
I changed the drivers code to mark the mode which was set on the
framebuffer before the xserver is started. It should work with 1.4 now
too. Please try 703acea131caf72e71f04a0ad40f540fe236be89
