Are you sure?  It seems the module parameter stops the SDIO device being
taken down logically over SDIO protocol if I understood it, if that
changes the behaviour then it is a bit hard to say what is correct
behaviour, root cause or symptom here, and what is done by the firmware.

As for it being a new behaviour, the SDIO stack is changed, maybe
Atheros one didn't take it down properly before.
