[qtmoko] building packages

Has anyone managed to get a package to build in qtmoko following these instructions?

I get the following error with the example app, and with my app.

mkpkg example
You must run configure before you can run mkpkg
  at /aux/Stuff/qtmoko/build/sdk/src/build/bin/mkpkg line 25
*** Error
/myapps/example/packages: Prerequisite failed
/myapps/example/package_pkg: Command execution failed
