When you flash the device you need to put it into USB mode.  In the 
u-boot menu you'll see the option.  So turn the device on into the 
bootloader menu.  Set the device to usb mode, then plug the cable in, 
not before you set it to usb mode.  After that you should be able to 
flash the device.
