Somebody in the thread at some point said:

It is every single user's first experience with the device though.

Every time it is demo-ed in front of anyone, their first vibe for what
the device is like is coming out of the boot action.

Two minutes is a LOOOONG time,,,

,,,and it is like it is because it's out of control, with a single
thread of startups all blocking each other, even with sleep() in there.
 We can definitely change this into something much better, and we should
- -- because other folks making similar products aren't going to accept
this kind of performance.
