Fair enough - I can see it from both sides.  I sometimes find having the 
gnd close to the component and the wires short helps clarify what the 
component's used for (smoothing caps, pull ups / downs etc.).  In this 
case, it's 50/50 for me, so I've connected them up to a single ground again.
