We should call 0402 and friends just that.

Beware that also here, the war between the imperial forces and the
metric armies still rages. For a taste of it, look at the last
page of

Whoever cooked up the 0201 (imperial) == 0603 (metric) equivalence
deserves a medal ...

SOT-xxx will also get interesting. There are at least four
numbering schemes in use:

1) "structural": SOT-<size_class>2<pins>, e.g., SOT-323, SOT-523
2) "some standard" (*): SOT-416 et al., heavily used by NXP.
   confusingly also start with "SOT".
3) EIAJ: SC-70, SC-75, etc. pretty common all over the place
4) "crazy vendor": EMT4, SSMini3 (Panasonic), etc.

(*) NXP either say nothing or claim it's their own, but others use
    that naming scheme as well.

So, there's a bit more confusion to resolve.
