GPS External antenna detect issue

I tried to get an external antenna today but nobody sells them around
here, so I ordered one for tomorrow.

What was your experience when you used this?

In fact, what about your experience when you didn't use it... did you
ever find yourself unable to get any signal for some period even in a
situation where you had OK signal before?
