Yes, that's a bit awkward to put down on the table, but it's not bad for
mounting on a bicycle or in an auto -- which is where *I* would find the
cable most useful, frankly.

The best alternative is one I've just not found yet; a right-angle that
would direct the cable to the top of the freerunner.  Motorola has a
right-angle adaptor that's very close (it goes downwards which is great,
except that covers up the power button); it reduces the risk of
connector damage greatly.

The side connector just seems to be a poor choice in the first place, as
it puts the most possible stress on the connector in the freerunner
during normal use; IMO it should have been in the bottom.  Hopefully the
3D87L8743R (or whatever that horrible new name is) will have the
connector placement fixed.
