icons related modif to gtkrc

Hello,

I noticed yesterday I had to add the following line to the top of the
gtkrc file in order to have a correct display of icons in
openmoko-today2 under xoo (local build on a regular PC using my
self-made autotools system):
gtk-icon-theme-name = "openmoko-standard"

Is it normal? Why isn't it needed to have this line on the normal Neo
setup?
(I install artwork things in a path
like /home/ortalo/testinstall/share/{icons,themes} - I do not really
understand why icons are not found directly.)
