This is a known issue and mentioned in bug 350
(http://bugzilla.openmoko.org/cgi-bin/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=350).
Daniel Willman is currently working on it. If I could figure out how to
get patches to apply to the main apps and compile into the rootfs image,
I would be tinkering with this as well.
