Whenever this question comes up (and it comes up often), I point people
to the relevant section of "Producing Open Source Software" from Karl
Fogel (the whole thing is a must-read for anyone managing a free
software project).

The short answer is that this is a religious war, both sides have merit,
and this list does it without the reply-to (which I personally prefer).
