I thought of that too.
Doing it purely in software will probably not be a good idea. Starting 
with the problem that it will not work while the processor is sleeping.

Phillips has some nice i2c controlled LED driver which can do this 
afaik. But it's too late for hardware changes. :)

A simple PWM controller would at least support dimming the damn thing.
Fading is just cheap eye porn. We need this. ;-)

I could not find any schematics on the wiki (are there any?). So if 
anyone who knows could comment on dimability of the LED?
