oh, by the way.
With J2ME you can send sms messages to port and listen on ports. Don't 
know what this is about. But J2ME uses this a lot to notify programs 
about events.
But can't see any mentioning of it in the SMS FSO API.

What immediately comes to my mind is some remote event notification 
system like they have on the iPhone. The 'using too much power with 
background processes' problem would subscribe to openmoko too.
With something like this you could pt your phone to sleep but would be 
woke up via the network to receive new messages like IM, Mail whatever...

A system like this would involve costs for each SMS sent to the device. 
But maybe someone could ma a good deal with some SMSC provider and 
provide a open and flexible notification system for opensource phones...
