No, you don't want to artificially create events. Your calendar should be a 
composition of different event sources. The classic source is probably 
your "calendar" (ical file or whatever), another one would be remote 
calendars (caldav), and you would have one for your contacts as well.

At least this is how we did it in Opie since ~2002.
