Approach to update kboot/kernel/rootfs

Somebody in the thread at some point said:

If we got to have a test fixture Milosch's way is a good one.  But why
do we require a special test fixture?  I wonder if we are doing it
mainly because that's what we did in the past and in fact we can come at
it a whole other way that does not require "super debug board" type fixture.
