A nice way is use a 'scope, trigger on 3.3V rail coming up and say
backlight on another channel.
I think for this kind of thing with handover between worlds and so on
only wallclock time can be trusted (although on ARM1176 they have a
counter register hidden away in there that runs at core clock rate, but
even that changes during boot action).
