OK, this is what I did. I first made the first partition ext2,
then linked the kernel to the names from the 1. Qi wiki page, 2.
Andy's message: # ls -l /boot
-rwxr-xr-x 1 root root 40375 Nov 17 13:07 config-2.6.24-20081103.git7172ec57

then shutdown and did from the desktop:
# dfu-util -a u-boot -R -D qi-s3c2442-andy_7cc3d38184ae30bd.udfu

Resetting USB to switch back to runtime mode

And the chose powered off and then powered back on plugging in USB.
And despite having put the above files in /boot, I end up booting into
Openmoko Corp's image, because I see a pair of silly boots.

And of course the (vfat+ext2) choice I can still reach is now invalid,
because I now only have (ext2).

So now I cannot boot off of my uSD card anymore.

So I suppose I must boot the "silly boots picture" operating system,
reformat the first partition back to vfat, and put the files back
there, if I ever want to use Debian on uSD again.
