Updating stable

Hi -

Tomorrow morning I plan to merge the diff between stable and
andy-tracking of thisevening on to stable branch.

There's still a couple of minor funnies but the patches to fix them can
be backported and in the meanwhile those known ones won't really impact
much.

I'm travelling a lot from tomorrow and want to get this done before I
get going.  But mainly now is a good moment because Ben has sent another
rebase / update and we will quite possibly get more dust again on
andy-tracking (although I doubt as much as last time).  Now we're pretty
stable it's a good moment to do it.

I'm just sending out a notification now in case it will cause trouble to
people who are working on the assumption that current stable branch will
stick at 2.6.24 forever :-)
