kernel defconfig, debugging, preemption, and very noticeable speedups

I tested this too.

"apt-cache search nano"

went from 20 s to 14.8 s and

"emacs -f kill-emacs"

went from 3.8 s to 2.2 s. (I of course repeated these multiple times
to get caches warm.)
