Could someone explain me the + + + and the * at the bottom of the screen (Om 2008.8) ?

I just found out about the support-ml so I repost my issue here:

Hi,
in every menu I have at the bottom of the screen three + and left a * sign. I can't find out any funcionality with these things? What is their puprose?
