evince related to instability in 2008.9

well, i tracked down the cause of the crashing problems i was getting
with 2008. turns out it was related to evince

i re-flashed the os on monday, and everything wasfine, until i
installed evince with opkg; E crashed before it was installed, let
alone running, and kept crashing every so often afterwards, usually
when i was firing up messages or notes

i uninstalled it, and it's been great for the last two days, so i
thought i'd try again, to be thorough; sure enough, before opkg had
finished the config, it threw a segfault

any ideas why this is happening at install time? could it be due to
the huge size of the .desktop file? it looks like it has every
language known to man in there - something like 200kb iirc
