what happens, if you try to load it manually with alsactl (be aware that  
fso loads the matching state file when the other side picks up! so, load,  
when you are connected, not before)?
additionally, make a call, dump the currently used state file with alsactl  
to another file (A). then use alsamixer or aumix to pull controls up or  
down.
when you are satisfied (do not hang up yet!), dump the state to a  
different file (B) and compare A and B.
