Backup and SHR Update

Hi all.

I am coming back to the Neo FreeRunner -
after a long time of inactivity, so please be patient :-)

I want to update to a recent SHR version
(recommended steps?;
files: the latest uImage and full-om-gta02.jffs2 from
http://build.shr-project.org/shr-testing/images/om-gta02/ , right?)
and backup my personal data before the update (procedure and/or tools?).

Where are relevant documentation pages for these two issues currently?
