<div dir="ltr">I had same thoughts and was why I though the init script made sense.<br>When the goal is small, fast and light which is what Xfce and its suite are, then "dragging" in gnome libraries and applications makes little sense. Besides, how many sessions would one run on a micro PC like this anyway?<br>

the whole point of auto login is starting the wm without user interaction.<br>
a fat, ugly beast like gdm is an overkill for that purpose -- a small init<br>
script that does nothing but starting X and subsequently the wm is<br>
absolutely sufficient.<br>
since you installed gnome as well, that's probably of no interest to you<br>
-- gdm should not add anything to gnome's dependencies.<br>
