I had same problem on i686 using gcc 3.4.6 and x86_64 gcc 4.1.2
Adding +network to the uic3.pro file changes the order of the libraries in the
link line from
    -lQtNetwork -lssl -lcrypto -lQtXml -lQtGui
to
    -lQtXml -lQtGui -lQtNetwork -lssl -lcrypto

which worked on both platforms
