Apologies, the current tap and drag feature is not for lassoing, but it is used
in the desktop version to create events as you suggested.

However, on a screen the size of the Neo1973, it will difficult to get the
accuracy needed for this feature. I think the best idea may be to add a New
button to the main toolbar.

The UI specification for the OpenMoko calendar application is at
http://wiki.openmoko.org/wiki/Calendar. Unfortunately it doesn't detail any
design specific to OpenMoko at the moment.
