Moving to Applications & Dependencies, as this bug is not application manager
specific.

We have a patch in Poky to improve the GTK+ file chooser so that it is more
usable on small screens.

They are currently for GTK+ 2.10. See the filechooser-* and filesystem-* patches
here: http://svn.o-hand.com/view/poky/trunk/meta/packages/gtk%2B/gtk%2B-2.10.14/
