Yes it's possible, you just have to echo "0" to sys interface for gsm 
power management.
Ie:

echo "1" > /sys/bus/platform/devices/gta01-pm-gsm.0/power_on

Nowadays it's called fic01 something I think. Just browse around a 
little bit.
