If you want you can use the packages provided on
http://pkg-fso.alioth.debian.org/debian/
there you can just to 
apt-get install zhone
and
apt-get source zhone
and use the other Debian/Ubuntu-like development tools. Some of the
build dependencies can be found in Debian experimental
