Garbled SMS messages with OM2008.8?

I also get garbled text messages sometimes.  Usually a great deal of 
them, that make no sense, and sometimes numbers that I've never heard of 
(eg. 1111611211) or something along those lines.

Some kind of data corruption?  I'm using Qtopia 20080808.
