Preventing opkg upgrade from flashing the kernel partition

FYI, trying 
rm /etc/default/flashkernel 
mkdir /etc/default/flashkernel
to see if it works as a parmanent (although dirty) fix.

I don't use the internal memory at all, so all that flashing just slows down 
my upgrades.
